Is it safe to buy art images on the Internet

June 27, 2009

People tend to open themselves easily to deception when they are buying original items from internet. You cannot feel them or compare it with others, but have to make your decision based on what you see and what you read about them. If your quest is for art, then things can get out of your hands as art is something difficult to judge.

The main obstacle that stands in the way while choosing art on the web is the way it is seen on screen and you are forced to buy what you see, whereas in reality it is vice versa. Few dealers take wrong advantage of this situation and try to control the spatial representation of art, it colour, texture and other details. Presentation is the most important part as far as art is concerned. You cannot turn a large portrayal into thumbnail or you can enlarge certain details. This is an injustice done to him who looks at the projected art in a different view.

Painting is something that cannot be judged from on screen as you have to consider other aspects like distance between you and the art, background, height and other settings, which are noticed when you see it in real. Where as editing factors such as lighting, contrast, blur and cutting counts less when compared to this virtual presentations. In short the art what you see online is presented by the web designer and you get an overall impression of the art through his intervention. Online approach limits the environments and settings which are very influential factors.

Web creates a fantasy and stirs up your imagination which encourages you to move further. The web representation should be not be interpreted in the wrong way. Web should not pave way to understate or overstate the art presented. When we view this in the commercial point, manipulation is welcomed. Virtual presentations are much more effective in reality. When you have to purchase art online never make you decision in a hurry, but analyse all the factors carefully.
